Rip Van Winkle

Once upon a time, I was obsessed with programming. It was my job... It was my life... and I was good at it. And then I just burned out, and didn't want to think about technical things any more. I was 30 when I quit my last programming job. And then I spent 20 years doing other things... never programming anything more than an occasional script or webpage in the process of accomplishing other goals.
I was happy letting other people handle the computeds, and it's worked out pretty well for me. But shortly after my 50th birthday, I found myself wanting to program again. So I installed Android Studio, and here I am.
I really do feel like Rip Van Winkle, if you know the old story. Everything is familiar, but changed. I feel like some low-budget time traveler... A pretty good programmer from the 80s/90s who's just come out of stasis. All the hardware is 1000x better now, in every regard. But is the software so much improved? Can I do a better job? We'll see...
