Katie Gaudreau, the younger sister of late hockey players Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, married Devin Joyce in a Philadelphia ceremony on Friday, July 11. The wedding comes during a difficult period for the Gaudreau family, who have been coping with the tragic loss of both brothers.

The ceremony took place in Philadelphia, where the Gaudreau family has strong ties. While details about the wedding venue and guest list remain private, the event marked a moment of joy for a family that has experienced profound loss in recent months.

Family Moving Forward After Tragedy

Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau were killed in a cycling accident in August 2023 when they were struck by a driver later charged with driving under the influence. Johnny, known as “Johnny Hockey,” was an NHL star with the Columbus Blue Jackets at the time of his death, while Matthew had played collegiate hockey.

The wedding represents a significant milestone for the Gaudreau family as they continue to navigate life after the devastating losses. Family friends indicated that the ceremony was both a celebration of the couple’s union and a poignant reminder of the brothers’ absence.

Hockey Community Support

Sources close to the family suggest that members of the hockey community were present to support Katie on her wedding day. Throughout the mourning period, teams across the NHL and the broader hockey world have shown tremendous support for the Gaudreau family.

The Columbus Blue Jackets, Johnny’s team at the time of his passing, along with the Calgary Flames, where he spent the majority of his NHL career, have both maintained close relationships with the family.

A family friend, speaking on condition of anonymity, noted: “This wedding was a beautiful moment for Katie and Devin, and you could feel Johnny and Matthew’s presence throughout the day. The family has shown incredible strength.”

Continuing Legacy

Since the passing of Johnny and Matthew, the Gaudreau family has worked to honor their memory through various initiatives. The Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau Foundation was established to support causes important to the brothers, including youth hockey programs and road safety awareness.

Katie has been actively involved in these memorial efforts, helping to organize charity events and speaking about her brothers’ impact on the community. Her wedding marks a personal step forward while keeping the memory of her brothers close.

The timing of the wedding in July holds significance as hockey’s off-season, allowing friends and former teammates from across the league to attend without conflicts with professional obligations.

As Katie Gaudreau begins this new chapter with Devin Joyce, the celebration stands as a testament to the family’s resilience. While the absence of Johnny and Matthew was deeply felt, their spirit was honored throughout the day’s events, according to those in attendance.

The couple has not announced immediate honeymoon plans, though they are expected to establish their home in the Philadelphia area where both have strong family connections.
