A deadly shooting erupted Saturday night when a 40-year-old man opened fire from a boat, leaving three people dead and at least five others with serious injuries, according to police.

The suspect, identified as Nigel Max Edge, is scheduled to make his first court appearance today. He faces multiple charges, including murder, in connection with the waterborne attack.

Authorities have not yet released information about the victims or a possible motive for the shooting. The incident has shocked the local community as investigators work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The Attack and Immediate Response

Police reports indicate Edge conducted the shooting from a boat, though details about the exact location and whether the victims were on land, in other vessels, or swimming remain unclear. The unusual nature of the attack—launched from water rather than land—presents unique challenges for investigators.

First responders arrived at the scene following reports of gunfire, where they found multiple victims. Emergency medical personnel transported at least five injured survivors to local hospitals with serious wounds.

Law enforcement officials have not disclosed how they apprehended Edge or whether he attempted to flee the scene using the watercraft.

Legal Proceedings Begin

Edge’s court appearance today marks the beginning of legal proceedings in what will likely be a complex case. Prosecutors are expected to formally present the charges against him, which include multiple counts of murder.

The suspect may also face additional charges related to the injured victims, weapons violations, and potentially other offenses depending on the circumstances of the attack.

Legal experts note that cases involving multiple fatalities often involve extensive pre-trial procedures, with today’s appearance likely focusing on issues such as bail determination and the appointment of legal counsel if Edge has not already secured representation.

Community Impact

The shooting has sent shockwaves through the community, particularly among those who frequent local waterways. Water-based recreation areas often attract families and groups seeking leisure activities, making the attack particularly disturbing.

Local officials may consider reviewing security measures around waterways and marinas in response to the incident. The attack highlights potential vulnerabilities in areas where boats can approach populated shorelines or other vessels with limited security screening.

As the investigation continues, authorities will likely examine Edge’s background, possible connections to the victims, and how he obtained the firearm used in the attack. Questions about his mental state and any warning signs that might have preceded the violence will also be central to both the investigation and eventual prosecution.

The case underscores the unpredictable nature of public violence and the challenges law enforcement faces in preventing such attacks, particularly in open recreational settings where security infrastructure is often minimal.

As Edge appears in court today, the community begins the difficult process of mourning those lost while supporting the survivors who now face a long road to physical and emotional recovery.
