I don't know colour codes can you please help?

Paul is right about w3schools but here is a short explanation.

Colors are a mixture of 3 primary colors. Red (R), Green (G), and Blue (B)  you may have seen the abbreviation RGB before.
Each of these color values can be between 0 and 255. The higher the number the more of the color.
Programmers often use hexadecimal  00 for 0 and FF for 255. and the # symbol is used to designate a hex number follows.

Therefore #000000 represents an RGB of 0 0 0 which is the color black (the absence of all color. Likewise #FFFFFF represents an RGB of 255 255 255 which is the color white (the presence of all color).

One last thing #39c is a shorthand for #3399cc.
