Mysql vs Postgre sql

Hay everyone,
I'm taking a course on sql language , but we have the compulsory use of postgre, and on this website I can't find a course on just sql language. Now the question is what are simialrities between mysql and postgre sql ?

just to chip in a bit, some programming communities also tend to favour one or the other, mostly unofficially though.
Something like it being ideal to use Postgresql while working with Django and Mysql with PHP etc.

As Clark correctly  stated it all comes down to a matter of preference.

Note..syntaxes are very similar too, learning one will still help in learning the other ..The SQL is what matters.

PostgreSQL is a unified database server with a single storage engine. MySQL has two layers, an upper SQL layer and a set of storage engines
