Cannot log in to the MySQL Server on phpMyAdmin

0 Ian Arbuckle · May 15, 2015
I've been following Alex's php tutorial 3 and apparently with everything installed I can't login to the phpMyAdmin.

This is my config.inc php file

/* Authentication type and info */
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'cookie';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['user'] = 'root';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] = 'password';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['extension'] = 'mysqli';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['AllowNoPassword'] = true;
$cfg['Lang'] = '';

This is what happens when I use the user and password

Did you add a server from the setup?

assuming you are working on a test server and it is localhost

http://localhost/phpmyadmin/setup

The password does not need to be entered into the password section because you will enter it in the browser.
/*
 * Servers configuration
 */
$i = 0;

/* Server: Laptop [1] */
$i++;
/* Authentication type */
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'cookie';
/* Server parameters */
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['verbose'] = 'Laptop';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['host'] = 'localhost';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['port'] = '';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['socket'] = '';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['connect_type'] = 'tcp';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['compress'] = false;
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['AllowNoPassword'] = false;

$cfg['Servers'][$i]['user'] = 'root';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] = '';

If you added the server you need to check your root log in and password in the command window.
