Problem installing wxPython3.0

0 Probuddha N · April 13, 2015

I just joined this forum and first of all I'd like to extend a HUGE Thanks to Bucky for coming up with the wonderful tutorials. I am an absolute novice in programming and have started learning Python from Bucky's videos.

I am running Python 2.7 on Windows 7 x64

Now coming to my problem, I am trying to install wxPython3.0, but after running the setup with the default settings, when I try to import wx, I am getting the following error

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "", line 1, in
    import wx
  File "C:\Python27\lib\site-packages\wx-3.0-msw\wx\", line 45, in
    from wx._core import *
  File "C:\Python27\lib\site-packages\wx-3.0-msw\wx\", line 4, in
    import _core_
ImportError: DLL load failed: %1 is not a valid Win32 application.

Please advise on how to fix this issue

Many thanks!

May i ask did you download the python2.7 64 bit version or python2.7 32 bit version? Also did you download the 32 bit version of wxpython or did you download the 64 bit version of wxpython? The reason why i ask is because if you downloaded 64 bit version of python and installed the 32 bit version of wxpython, this may cause some problems.

Hello Tim

Sorry for not making my original post clear enough. I am running Python2.7 64bit version and I 'think' I installed the 64bit version of wxPython as well.

I will still recheck and get back to you

Many thanks
