What is the best lightweight IDE for PHP development?

+5 Altaf Husain Neva · February 9, 2015
I am starting a new project in PHP. And need a good IDE with basic functionality like code highlighter, project management etc. I have already worked with Notepad++ and Dreamweaver. Please suggest me something else. Which should be completely free.

Is PHPStorm free? Thought it had a 30 days trail time, but that a payment was required after it?

Yeah,  personally do I  love all the Jetbrain's products :) but as he wanted a free IDE, did I start wonder if it actually was free or not :P

I just use Notepad++

It's good and bad at the same time.

I think Repid PHP Editor is a great and lightweight Editor/IDE, have never tried it myself, but I have heard some great stuff about it. :)

I think that you will find your answer better by looking at features, trying various editors or demo versions of editors and then making your own decision. This is such a matter of preference and how you like to work that there is no point in asking anyone what they use for the most part. I've seen a lot of programmers use VI and nothing else. If I had to say what made them different is that they are used to doing everything on the keyboard so they can really fly on something that relies on keyboard commands.
