How can I use sublime text for free

I downloaded Sublime onto my Linux Drive and after writing code for a little while it asked me to pay 70$

I thought this is free

what do i need to do??

try geany or the Jetbrain IDES.
Gedit is not ba itself.

There is also this new one called brackets which even has ftp functionality attached.

I don't think Sublime is that expensive, but there are certainly better alternatives.

Can I just state that Sublime Text is  insolently expensive for a text editor? I would rather pay for one of JetBrains products specialized for my needs rather to buy general purpose overpriced text editor.

You can't. It is an unlimited trial, it will bother you until you pay 70$. It is not free, but the trial will never run out. There is nothing you can do, but to cough up the money, or live with pop-ups.
