Best method for account system?

0 Braydon Davis · June 5, 2014
Hey guys. So recently i've been making websites that have an account system, and i've just been using sessions for the user information. I wanted to know if it's the best method for storing the user account data, and if it isn't, then what is? Thanks.

DO NOT, use md5 or sha1. They are not secure at all, these can be cracked in seconds. sha512 + random salt is the way to go.

Yea, for passwords I use sha256 encryption.

And to add onto Kai's comment, one way you can encrypt your passwords are by using the md5() function. However, I'm sure there are better encryption methods out there.

Well, I'm about a year into the great scripting language, but I use cookies to store the account data.
