Emulator in Android Studio

+4 Simon Haines · December 16, 2014
Okay, so in the new android tutorial (#4 in the series) , when I got to the SDK Manager, I saw that the package the package to install was already installed; but when I started the emulator, It said it wasn't installed. Should I uninstall it then reinstall it?, or should I do something else?

I also have a processor without VT-x. So, I choose the one with arm.. on the list as an emulator instead of google's x86 image .  It is pretty slow and giving "system proccess isn't responding" error, but enough to use with these tutorials.

For those that are still having lots of problems with the standard AVD, like I did myself, I can highly recommend these two alternative android emulators:

  • GenyMotion. Very intuitive and easy to install. Ability to choose between many devices. This should probably be your first stop when you're looking for alternatives. note: you'll need to install an account. (https://www.genymotion.com)

  • BlueStacks. A little more of a pain to install. There are, however, plenty of YouTube vids providing a step-by-step tutorial on getting it to work with Android Studio.   (http://www.bluestacks.com/)

I've tried installing the java compiler and android studio with Bucky and it hasn't helped haha. Think I might wait for my teacher to tell me how to do it next semester.
