Hi, I was wondering if somebody can share their thoughts about Sass... important to know? does it improve abilities? necessary?

Sass allows you to better control the flow of your CSS rules.  It allows you to create variables and mixins(functions) that can be reused in your style sheets.  Also, it allows CSS rule nesting.  Personally, I use it but it isn't necessary or required.  Sass still creates a normal css file which is used by your websites.  I hope this answers your questions.
