Well since you provide no code I will do my best.

To add images in html from the web...right click on an image from the web and click copy link location.
And paste it in the quotes

<img src = ""/>

Am I missing your problem?
Your description was kind of vague.

Is your src correct?

Yes.  Though to display something you have to get a file location and paste it in the quotes.

If you want more info

People who do things like "smiley.gif" have it in the same file they are working with their index.html and other files.

People who do things like "" have right clicked a file on the web and clicked "Copy Image Location"

If your image is not in the same directory (folder) as the code you will have to add a ../ This tells the computer to search for the image from one directory up.  for an example-

<img src = "../smiley.jpg"/>

you can do it in two ways.
In the HTML

<img src="path/to/img.jpg" />

or in the CSS

<div class="img"></div>

.img {
   background-image: url("path/to/img.jpg");
   background-size: cover, contain or any other choices;
   background-position: center, or any other choices;

I usually just use the full path.
Just right-click --> properties--> General--> And copy the path/
