Wow.  I believe that he forgot that Christopher Columbus' accidental discovery of the Americas (San Salvador in the Bahamas in particular) was what would be the beginning of the end for the Native Americans.  I am actually quite amazed at how brutal the Spaniards treated these Native Americans.  Taking them as slaves, forcing a religion onto groups of people about which they knew nothing, killing them with diseases unknown to them.  The Black Legend was not a valid justification for later settlements to take away their land.  The Englishmen might have stated that their reason was to "save" the Indians from the Spanish, but I still think that the apple doesn't fall too far off the tree.  What do you think?
